I'd probably do: Right Mouse Click GTALU > Click Properties > Click Compatibility > Click Run Compatibility Mode > Click Windows 98 / Windows Me. Click Ok / Apply then start.

The chance that this will help is about 0% :). It doesn't help much in ANY game. However, this can create a new error messages (for example it can say: Incorrect CD, happened to me one time).

Fail Thijn, looks like XP without the theme to me.

Anyway, seems like a few possible reasons why your getting this.

  • You have a \'modded\' GTA3. Please use a clean installation of GTA3 and remove any d3d8.dlls from the GTA3 directory.
  • Someting is injecting a dll into the GTA3 process. This could be xfire or something similar which provides an on screen interface. Try disabling these and try again. Xfire runs ok for me but try turning it off anyway.
  • Your issue is similar to one of the testers, where an application running in the tray is interfering with GTA3/LU and causing it to crash. The issue with the tester has not been fully resolved but he found that disabling Daemon Tools or his Audio Control Panel helped. Don\'t know why or if these were causing the issues but its worth a try

Try these things i suggested and see what happens. If it keeps happening could you please reply with your system specification (Operating system, CPU, RAM, Graphics Card) and also tell us whats running in your system tray (by the clock)

Not easier to run Windows in Safe Mode, where only the necessary things are loaded :p?

So as I see, a few people (me too), got a crash at start at the game. If it would be possible, I would like to test the old LU public beta, if it (still) works with our GTA3. If yes, then maybe the stable LU fails somehow?
