Title: UnknowmPlayer Crashing? (UPDATE: KAS confirmed crashing servers)
Post by: Bob on November 06, 2011, 10:13:28 am: A person called UnknowmPlayer (yes, thats his name, I acknowledge the spelling error hah) has shown suspicious activity. I found him alone on a server, and shortly after approaching him things started acting unresponsive and he went invisible. About 3 seconds after running around I lost connection and the server fell off the master list.

I find him again at the GTA.ru server. Things are fine for a while. I finally go up to him again, I have trouble walking and he kills me. I /goto him. Then I find my CMDs won't work and the game starts to act weird as it did before. Shortly after I find just about every player including myself suddenly disconnects from the server in a similar crash to before, however this time it remains on the master list.

Is it possible for a player to be crashing a server, by accident or even on purpose? It seems a little odd to me, either he is causing crashes or they are following him. Was wondering if anyone else knows this player and has noted similar occurrences? May have been a coincidence but it striked me as very odd.

For any problems, check his/her ip address first if its matched between the real one and the one who is impersonating.

Surprised he isn't banned from the server already. He is pretty bad company haha.

EDIT: This happened another 3 times (but it took him about 10 minutes so it was a minor inconvenience). I scared him away when I revealed I was taking photos of it, but its a warning to all.

You know [LT]KAS is an admin of that server, he can do that as many times as he want. And no other admins complain about his actions.

I wondered if he admined it at first but there was considerable delay between random kicks so I figured it couldn't have been the reason.

Unfortunately, there are some people who would much rather abuse bugs to their advantage. I really don't care if someone posts his IP here because of "zomg privacy," I'd rather have this guy subnet banned across every server in LU.

About KAS...

I dont want to create panic, but I think it will be very hard to find out.
Any bug (or hack) that he have found, makes he like a King. He very paranoid i am in doubt, that he will say how he hack.

To all: By the way, KAS is not a Server admin of GTA.ru server.

This is a good idea i think. We can create a "Community of Server Owners" (here on forums if administration don't mind, or somewhere else forums) and post in topics - IPs of hackers, abusers, scamers, etc.

If KAS is banned from the Master Server list, it would be more effective. If he is abusing bugs within the software itself to indiscriminately crash servers, it's abuse of the LU Master Server and it's related mods and networks, which would constitute his removal from it's usage.

He's been crashing a lot of servers now, even those that are populated, bragging about his ability to do so. That's when he isn't spamming or lagging the place up to avoid bullets. With a small online community its hard to avoid coming into contact with him, and he is very unpleasant to the point I've witnessed people leave servers angrily. Its not a thing a place like this could do with. I think I speak for everyone when I say there is no want for a person who makes it their business to put people off playing, when ideally it'd be good to attract more players.

Post by: SugarD on November 15, 2011, 05:51:38 pm: The problem with a global ban list is then you get people being banned from all servers for breaking rules from one specific server that don't apply to others, like hackers in a RP server that also play in a stunt server that allow hacking for bigger stunts. As for a list for banning people globally for attacking servers indiscriminately in the rarer situations like this, this can already be done by banning them from the Master Server list since it's abuse the mod's bugs to destroy it's entire playerbase...not just that of one specific server.

Also, if there is ever a ban list, I hope its moderated by official LU team members, so if somebody was wrongly banned or was banned by a server owner out for revenge, then it could be removed.

Despite different rules for different servers as explained above, not every admin is trustworthy in themselves. I could imagine a lot of threats, bias, and corruption by admins who ban people they just don't like.

I still think a reporting system is best. Say for example, if the user is reported more than 5 times for serious reasons, they could be put into the system. Either way, a global ban system would need to be operated by LU developers as far as I'm concerned. People can't be trusted managing it themselves.

In this case, letting people choose who they want banned on their own servers is good enough for most players and servers. KAS is a bit of an exception because he indiscriminately wants to wreck servers and prey on players. Most people don't act this oddly.

You are writing that like I disagree with you, when I think its to everyone's opinion that nobody who tries to degrade LU or its servers should be allowed to keep playing.

Just I think you can agree LU and its players need to be careful in how situations like this are dealt with. I have confidence the developers know whats best.

On some servers, such as gta.ru server if you didn't write /login password - all players are automatically disconnect from this server. So.. i think you need fix this 1st, and only after that ban the player. Also ban the player on all LU servers - it's not so good point... give the server owners possibility to choose ban or not at they own servers... - this is enough for the truth.

That is.. no reason for creating global ban list i think...
