Title: LU launches singleplayer
Post by: niCe on March 04, 2013, 07:24:06 pm
Everytime I attempt to connect to server, the singleplayer launches instead of LU. I've searched forums to find some resolutions, but none of those worked for me. I have Win 7 64 Bit, but LU worked on my previous notebook with Win 7 64 Bit. Also, the LU client worked on my new notebook the first day I installed LU and GTAIII, now, after a week, it doesn't work anymore and opens singleplayer.

I've tried (and none of these worked):
- Running the program as administrator
- Creating new account in Win
- Running the program in compatibility for: Win 98, Win 2000, Win XP SP2, Win XP SP3, Win Vista
- Reinstalling game and client
- Copying the game directory and GTA 3 User Files from my previous notebook (where LU client worked properly)

My GTAIII is installed in D:/Rockstar Games/GTAIII, I've installed LU client in this folder too. GTAIII Directory in LU client is set properly.

Thanks in advance for your advices and help.

Try path without space
also files Mp3dec.asi, cleo.asi, d3d8.dll, d3d9.dll can do that

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunatelly none of these worked either. I don't have any mods installed and d3d8.dll or d3d9.dll are not in the GTAIII folder. I don't know what else I should try.

Thanks, I've downloaded it and copied to GTAIII folder and overwritten the original gta3.exe, but neither this worked.

Any idea please? I can't connect to any server. I really don't know how to resolve this, I believe I've tried everything.

//I also think that this problem might be caused by uninstalling GTA IV few days ago. Is it possible it uninstalled also some files needed for LU, for example DirectX?

Yes, I have the lu.txd files and also other files. I also copied the GTAIII directory from my previous notebook and it didn't work. So I assume there must be some files missing in Windows. I've installed DirextX 9.0c and NET Framework 4 but neither this did help.

You don't have to reinstall your OS if LU wont run.
Make sure you have the right gta3 version, and that LU is pointing to the right directory.

Right click on the shortcut to Liberty Unleashed. Change the "Start in" folder to your GTA III installation folder, or to nothing at all.

Thanks for your replies, but unfortunatelly, this problem is still unresolved.

You don't have to reinstall your OS if LU wont run.
Make sure you have the right gta3 version, and that LU is pointing to the right directory.

I have 1.1 patch installed and GTAIII directory is set properly in client.

I have tried this too. Originally, there was GTAIII folder in "Start in", I have now tried to change it to empty value, but LU still opens singleplayer.

Same problem, we need client working on x64 OS. Nothing helps...  :(

It works fine in 64-Bit copies of Windows. Something else is causing this bug. It happens in 32-Bit versions too.

That's strange, because i just installed fresh clean OS. Maybe some of system components are missing, who knows.

This particular bug is a known issue that affects users randomly. We still aren't sure why it happens, but I know VRocker has been working tirelessly trying to figure it out so it will be fixed.

Have you tried the previously-mentioned fixes yet?

I tried everything from this forum and google, even with different game distributives - still nothing, but everything works perfect with same x86 OS.

So you do have the correct path set in your shortcut? Have you tried running LU.exe directly and connecting to a server?

Everything is correct, i installed the game and multiplayer on 2 PCs (at work and at home), and both of them are using Windows 7 Ultimate (x86 at work and x64 at home). All settings, paths etc are same and they are quiet easy to setup for me, because i used to play many different GTA multiplayers. Both OS are fresh, with clean games installed. Waiting for hotfix, too bad some people are having same problem and can't play LU, it needs more players online!  :-\

I need to know if you have tried this yet, rather than using one of the shortcuts added by you or the installer. If the issue still exists when the executable itself is ran from GTA III's folder, then it's either a new bug, or your installation is somehow broken.

Yes i tried to run client directly from the game folder, as an administrator, anyway it doesn't really matter. Also, there is no way to set up game installation path incorrectly, because client will send you an error message. I tried different game distributives, installation folders, compatibilities and so on - no success. I give up untill new version of LU comes out...

When we say the installation path, we mean the path defined in the shortcut, not the client itself.

I'm sorry for bumping this old topic but I would like to know if there is a fix for this problem as I can't join any server either. I'm using win7 x64.

There are several temporary fixes posted. As for a permanent solution, it was made very clear that we aren't sure what is causing it yet.

Excuse me for bumping, but LU works perfect for me on x64 PC after installing DirectPlay(includes in DirectX 9.0). Maybe it will help for somebody.

Hey guys,

LU is working fine on my PC. My brother recently bought a new laptop with a Win 7 x64 OS. He has exactly the same problem that is described in this thread. We've been trying for hours to solve that, following every advise given in this thread.

We do run LU.exe directly from the GTAIII directory. It always launches singleplayer, no matter if we're Admin or not, if we use a compatibility mode or something else.

We even copied the whole GTAIII folders from my PC to his - Same problem.

So, what could be the reason for that? It must be something with Windows 7.. Normally, problems related to Admin rights and stuff can be sloved by disabling the UAC, but this does not seem to be the problem here. On my laptop, it even works with enabled UAC.

Here's another thing that might be related to it:

On my laptop, I set LU.exe to be run as Administrator. This caused a UAC shield symbol to appear next to the Icon. I think thats normal, and Google agrees with that.

On my brothers laptop, this does NOT happen! Neither with LU.exe nor with GTA3.exe or any other programs! I have absolutely no idea what could cause that, also google couldn't really help me there.

Maybe this helps somehow.. I or we also appreciate any help!

Ian

Can you test this dll?

I wouldn't recommend using that file. Who knows what it is infected with.

Only use the official LU.dll that comes with the client download on the main site.

Then what's different to the official DLL?

'kernel32.dll' -> 'kernel64.dll', 'shell32.dll' -> 'shell64.dll'

Changed to 64 bits, if works, this is the problem

Hey guys,

Sorry for the late response, we were quite busy over the last weeks..

Finally found time to take a look at that problem again.

First, the replace lu.dll file didn't work. An error popped up, saying that there is no kernel64.dll on the system. I checked on my PC's (Windows 7) and there isn't either. Nervertheless, LU.exe managed to open up - but a click on an existing game started the singleplayer mode. Heyo!

I've tried some other thing.. Compatibility modes (again), moved the whole thing to other locations (C:\.. also just the "Documents" folder..), I played with all the permissions you can assign to the folders, granted a full access to everyone on the PC to the GTA folders.. Problem still remaining. I don't get it..

Ahja, I also tried deactivating Firewall and UAC again.. No results.

Still noone was able to locate the problem?

I would like to state, that I'm using same files in game folder, like on another notebook, where LU runs fine. Therefore I guess the problem is in some missing program or Windows. However on that another notebook, there is also Win7 64bit, like on the notebook where I can't make LU running.

Any suggestions please?
