Can't they just change the contents of the whole file, or compile their own file?

The issue seems to be that player's can modify/re-write client-side scripts and run them as long as the filesize of their version matches that of the original. Scripters can workaround this by either not using any client-side scripts, or implementing a basic anticheat. That said, this could be fixed by verifying scripts by checksums, not file sizes.

This is just based on my observations, I could be totally wrong.

For constant, well-known abusers, there is one almost sure-fire way to teach them to stop - report them to their ISP. Here is an example of such, using KAS's IP.

Based on a basic who.is lookup (http://who.is/whois-ip/ip-address/46.72.128.173/), we get a report. In this report, we are referred to ripe.net for further information.

At ripe.net, we are given this:

Code: [Select]

While this is a lot to sort through, we have obtained the important info - the name and contact information for his ISP:

role:           TI NOC
address:        NetByNet holding
address:        Moscow, Russia, 117105
address:        Varshavskoe highway, 9 bld. 1B
remarks:        *****************************************

phone:          +7 495 980 2800
fax-no:         +7 495 740 4811

With this, you can contact them at their abuse email, and explain the situation. To be successfull, you should provide accurate evidence and present strong arguments to them. It is against the law in just about every country to willingly attack another computer on the internet, period. KAS has admitted to this here on the forums.

You should really only bother with contacting an ISP if a user has shown an unusual obsession to attacking your server. Otherwise, a serial ban, subnet ban, or both will stop most people.

Browsing the source code, I see:

Code: [Select]
_SQUIRRELDEF( SQ_mysql_connect )
{
        const SQChar* szServer = NULL;
        const SQChar* szUser = NULL;
        const SQChar* szPass = NULL;
        const SQChar* szDatabase = NULL;

I'm gussing its database <- mysql_connect(server, user, pass, database[, port]);

I'm serious with that quote too, thats the level of insults I see on most servers and most times - blind 5th grade rage.
6  Off Topic / General Chat / Re: The reason why there are playing few people :D on: September 21, 2011, 05:35:57 am
This whole thread is a troll thread, with players baggin' on each other left and right. "OMG FU SHNUROCK, AIRBUS EAT A DICK, F YOU AND F HER TOO".

The reason few people are playing is because its a small community, deeply divided for no reason. You all are concerned with your clans, your "pride", and what you consider just & unjust to the point where you forget it's a game. I see it all the time. If you all banded together to grow the community, then it would be acceptable to feud like everyone does now.

It's okay,

Well as far as dynamic IPs go, I would suggest implementing a client serial system like MTA:SA does, if there is not one already.

A global ban list is just really a bad idea and never ends well - it only takes one rogue server operator/admin to ruin someone's day. Of course an appeal system would be in place - but its still inconvenient for the player that is wrongly banned.

The best way to combat rule breakers is to have active admins on duty. That's about it. Ohh, and to try to script ways to prevent abuse (command and chat antispam, for example).

Shared ban system = bad. Innocent users can be wrongly banned, and the whole system will just attract a bunch of controversy.

2. Russian players (like Shnurok)

What about Turkish players? They SUCK to deal with on MTA. -.-

You claimed half the map, no matter what server you are playing on that's still a load of shit.
12  Liberty Unleashed / Bug Reports / Re: Client script issues. on: September 16, 2011, 10:17:48 pm
Thanks. Final question - is there a way to prevent/deter theft of client-side scripts? Can they be compiled just like LUA scripts?
13  Liberty Unleashed / Liberty Unleashed Chat / Re: MySQL Plugin for LU? on: September 16, 2011, 09:42:39 pm
I'll play with it a bit later on, nothing too serious until Juppi shows up with a list of functions / directions or something. Thanks!

@SugarD - Another thing I've planned is to synchronize chat from all servers into one IRC channel. I noticed that there are sockets available - should I use these, or is there a hidden IRC module for LU laying around as well?
14  Liberty Unleashed / Bug Reports / Re: Client script issues. on: September 16, 2011, 09:41:24 pm
Another thing I was wondering - where to client files go when they are downloaded? Not that I'm trying to snoop around at other peoples scripts, I just want to see if the script is actually being update and not loaded when it is reloaded after a minor change.
15  Liberty Unleashed / Liberty Unleashed Chat / Re: MySQL Plugin for LU? on: September 16, 2011, 08:17:10 am
Well, my plan is to have a shared accounts and ban database across the III, VC, SA, and IV servers running my gamemode, which is why this is important. It can wait tho, still need to work on the basics.
