We're throwing a party! i mean... public beta!
Just to test out the stability and make sure theres no big, obvious bugs left. Theres still a few small bugs but we've decided its good enough for a pub beta :)
The browser is NOT the finished one, its just one we threw together in a few minutes so its buggy. Theres an alternative old browser Here if your having problems.
Remember! You need gta3 1.1 to play. If you run GTA and you get a black screen, that pressing enter or space closes, then you dont have 1.1.
You can get the setup file Here. Sorry about the msi, was easy to create and wont be the finished installer.
Update: (31/07/2010) Another update. Fixed the player being in the incorrect seat and hopefully being thrown out the vehicle randomly. Theres other improvements but thats the main. Download above, or Here if you have already installed.
On a side note, this update (31/7/2010) also fixes the 3d positional audio with Mumble (http://mumble.sourceforge.net/). When mumble is configured correctly, you can hear players speaking from where they are in game, getting louder the closer they are and taking advantage of surround systems.
Theres a voice server running at mumble.liberty-unleashed.co.uk if anybody wants to try it :)

Known Issues
- Server name in the scoreboard is bigger than the board itself
- Graphics corruption if using a 16bit resolution (If you have purple blocks on the screen, this is why)
Warpy vehicle sync, with a ped 'flying' behind the car. Currently investigating thisSometimes cant passenger in a car, possibly due to a variation of the above issue- Being around too many exploding cars can cause a crash
- Passengers radar blips are 'jerky'
- Cars sometimes dont explode, we're looking into it

Info
- To spawn, press the right ctrl
- To enter as a passenger, press the enter key near to any passenger door. To enter as driver, do the same next to the drivers door
- If you wish to change your skin, press F4
- The chatbox and console can be customised. Type commands in the console (activated with the ` key)
- As some people prefer to have no chatbox background, theres /chatback off
- The speedo, sounds etc are client side scripts. If you want to look at the client scripts loaded, navigate to Documents/GTA3 User Files/LU/Scripts
- There are currently 2 scripts loaded on the server, one is producing an invalid command error even when its valid. Just ignore it
- A few useful commands in the loaded scripts are: /wep <id> /spawncar <id/name> /fixme /heal /c1 <r g b> /c2 <r g b>

@ Artuurs: You need to make sure that your version of GTA 3 is V1.1, you probably have 1.0.
@ s3ap: It is getting scripts from the server, VRocker left a big San Andreas map in there though so it may take a while to download them, otherwise I'm not sure what the problem could be.

ok eeem, heres the thing, i downloaded a full gta 3 wich was not meant to be installed for it wasl all already prepared, i need to actually install the game manualy and into the pc for this to work i think, but wheare can i get a full gta 3 to download?

I had the same problem with the gta 3 1.1 version. You just have to google gta3 v1.1 patch and you'll find something :)

@ s3ap: The map size is only 4MB or so, not too big.
@ Andruha: It seems that the server isn't online at the moment, I'll make sure it gets put back on for you.

The server seemed to work, but the game stuck at "Receiving handling data"

Dont know why, but i have some error while connecting to the server :-[ I am using Windows 7 and original gta3 patched to 1.1 and it works fine to me.

The same error for me like @up after double click lu.exe. Old launcher works as it should. VR's VCMP browser was working without any errors.
I like the modified loading screen :).

@ Andruha: If you have tried restarting the browser then use the old LU launcher which VRocker linked to in the first page. You have to remember that the browser was thrown together quickly as a test and a new one will be created before release.
@ Anyone that can't connect to the server: VRocker has apparently touched something to do with handling data, he said it will be fixed once he gets home, so expect an update to made later on this afternoon.

Currently theres server issues occuring, hence being unable to join. Theres a bug in the handling data sending due to a change i made this morning.
That and the server is crashing when people join with modified files. Please remember that you need a clean gta3 installation

Here are a few my suggestions.
1. IMO better to display the kill message after the killed player has finished falling :p.
2. Enable rhino can be destroyed like a normal car :p.
3. Don't want to register at Mantis but crashed 1 time Exception At Address: 0x004B8F43 (Thijn had the same). I was entering Javi's bus and then boom :<.
4. Why Rhino's rockets don't damage cars?
5. Add crouching. I know it wasn't possible in GTA3, but at Gtaforums there is a GTa3 Xbox mod and it has a crouch script. Don't tested it however :p.

Why wait till they have finished falling, not really needed. Rhino should act like it's meant to in single player, and crouching is for noobs.

@Force: Because it's weird when you kill someone, but he is still standing :p. Crouching isn't for noobs, do you imagine playing some wars without crouching and hiding?
Another bug: Javi was driving a car but for me he was a passenger :p. Fraps shit didn't worked took print screen :D.

And one time Javi said I am in his bus, but I wasn't. However I couldn't enter the bus :<.

@ NC: I always fight without crouching :P. As for that picture thats what we refer to as the 'standing bug' it occurs when the player streams back into range, we thought it had been fixed but obviously not.

After opening the Lusetup.msi it says, that first I should remove LU from my PC. Yes VRocker, you need another installer :).

Good work ;). LU runs great, but small mistakes, but it is good to 80% 8).

i play in LU above 6 hours per day! very good multiplayer! In VRocker we trust!!!

/goto is very Buggy.
You have to remember that all the commands and all the vehicle GUI stuff you see is the script and not LU it's self.

Are you launching LU with its launcher or GTA3.exe? Try to set path to your GTA3 directory or use old launcher (must be in GTA3 dir). If it wont help then try to reinstall LU. Make sure you have d3d8.dll file in your GTA3 directory.

grats on releasen a pub beta..played it for a lil bit... (xfire works ingame btw fine)
i had it installed to usb...got fps lag..installed the game to c drive..
now it wont launch from the lu browser...gettin some error sayin it cant find file..continue/quit ...aint launchin....
gonna try the old launcher
..chat box was a lil big..running at low resolution..had to turn it off to see wtf i was doin...but other then that shit looks good. (/chatback off is coo though)
edit; o and i noticed..u put the 16 bit bug ...might wanna add..."if u get these purple blocks, please switch to a 32 bit resolution"
edit: fix the 16 bit bug though :( cuz 32 bit is laggy for me. and it appears i only crash when somen blows up...but not all the time..and...someone threw a moltov and i crashed...but..just during normal game play it is fine...driven..shootin w/e..its all good.
edit:...runnin 16 bit now..no purple blocks..still laggy though...should run fine however. ok 800.x600..laggy..640/480 ftw -_-

Public beta closed!
We've decided to close the public beta after being running for nearly three weeks and receiving a lot of useful feedback. Data collected during testing should help us fix remaining bugs and issues while preparing for a release.
